5 Easy Ways to Stretch Your Event Budget

Q: “We’d LOVE to hire a speaker for our event, but the budget is tight. Is it possible to hire the perfect speaker with limited resources?”

A: “Yes it is!”

Budgets are tight for many professional organizations. Business owners and industry leaders know that you get what you pay for! Sometimes “free speakers” aren’t really free. Hiring the right speaker is vital to your event’s success. That’s why we’ve gathered up best practices on how to stretch your event budget to include a professional speaker!

1. Find a vendor partner willing to be a “speaker sponsor.” Product manufacturers are always looking for opportunities to get in front of their target audience–AKA your members! Sponsors can have logos on marketing material and read the speaker intro in front of the group. (We thank sponsors on social media to extend the marketing value of their sponsorship even more.)

2. Use product supplier “marketing dollars.” This has become more common lately. If your members sell more, their vendor/supplier partners do too! It is a WIN/WIN!

3. Partner with other professional organizations. Your local ASID, NKBA, NAHB, NARI, Buyers Club, Builder’s Assoc, etc. are probably in the same “tight budget” boat. Work together on a joint event to reduce costs and still meet the needs of your members. (Hint: Our “Competitive Advantage”& “Design a Sales Process that Drives Results” presentations are a perfect fit for home builders, remodelers, product sales reps AND interior designers as well!)

4. Consider a virtual event. Virtual events are a great way to reduce overall costs on travel, venue, food, etc and still provide important information, motivation and inspiration.

5. Open the event to the public. Invite anyone/everyone! Sell tickets. Encourage members to bring in their entire sales/design teams and their fav trade partners. This supports the budget and may also attract new/active members to your organization.

BONUS IDEA: Plan ahead! Many speakers will give you extra special incentives if you get on their schedule in advance. This allows them more time to prepare and plan.Want more info on this topic?

Bring in the speaker who does exactly what your members want – and need – and they will leave the event feeling like they gained something really valuable.
