Work Toward Your Goals and Be Productive


As a business leader, getting more work accomplished is something that tops your priorities list.

However, meeting deadlines, completing tasks, responding to important emails, monitoring projects, and managing other equally important business processes is not easy.

Being productive requires making a conscientious decision to do what many people do not want to do – making the commitment to spending the time, energy, and tactics to move forward.

If you are feeling overwhelmed, have too many things screaming for your attention, and are looking for ways to supercharge your productivity, you are in good company.

Set goals and commit to them. People talk about goals all the time, but fewer people take the required action to achieve the goals they say they want to achieve.

Know where you are and plan steps to help you get to where you desire to be.

Define your vision or long-term goal and let it guide your everyday decisions. For example, what do you want to accomplish in 5 to 10 years? What is your main purpose? Once you define it, produce a plan to ensure you fulfill it.

Divide your main goals into small chunks to stay motivated and ensure success.

Create and work on short-term goals every day that get you closer to your long-term goals. Set S.M.A.R.T. goals to stay motivated and encouraged to take the required steps daily.

Specify where you want to be and how you are going to get there. If you want to increase revenue by 10% this year, define how you will reach your target and map out your steps.

Assess your present situation and resources. Is it possible to meet your goals with the available resources? Do you have enough time or finances? If not, make changes.

Identify areas that can be altered and make the necessary adjustments. For example, if you plan to convert one hundred people into customers in 90 days, but do not have enough resources, set a lower target or add additional months. You can aim for twenty people in 30 days or fifty people in 90 days. The best way to succeed is by setting realistic and attainable goals.

Constantly monitor your progress to identify areas that need improvement. Have weekly or monthly reviews to see if you have improved.

*Did you meet this week’s target?

*Did you perform better than last week?

*How far are you from your ultimate goal?

*Are you getting closer each day?

Lots of people get stuck when trying to achieve goals. They envision the obstacles instead of the solutions.

To achieve what we want to achieve, we need to specify what we intend to do, and then we articulate the obstacles that threaten to get in our way. Going to climb Mount Everest? There will be obstacles, such as needing to get into climbing condition, securing the right gear, and having a team to support the effort.

Once you know the challenges, brainstorm on the solutions. Having the solutions mapped out means that we do not get stopped by focusing on the obstacles. Then create the series of action steps needed to achieve the solutions that leads to achieving the goal.
